Nobody can tell ya
There's only one song worth singing
They may try and sell ya
Cause it hangs them up
To see someone like you
You gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind music
Even if nobody else sings along
~ Mama Cass Elliot

Things that make me say "yuck!" :
- when I am shopping with one of my children, keeping them in constant proximity and someone says aloud, in an irritated tone, "WHOSE child is this? Is this YOUR child? This happened to me today when an older woman feared that my son was going to try some of the tester hand cream which sat on the shelf at his eye level. I quickly put her fears to rest and told her that I saw what he was doing and was confident of his hand cream dispensing abilities, thank you very much. Then I watched my son apply a pea size dollop into his palm and gently place the tube back on the shelf. Take that, Ms. Busy-Body.
- along the same line as the above yuck...just that general negative feeling I get from some folks when I am out and about with my kiddos. They are well behaved and yet it's this feeling of all eyes are on you, like they are just waiting for them to do something ill-mannered or destructive. I want to scream at these people, "Hey - you were a kid once too. It's not a disease, get over it!" or "Hey - we are paying customers and have just as much right to be here as you do." or "Would it kill you to wipe that scowl off your face and smile?"
- that I had to wear a scarf today with my zip-up hoodie to feel warm.
- having a dry cough that makes you gag
- When people aren't reliable. Oh sure, I totally understand when things pop up - that's life, But when it happens over and over and over again, that's a pattern and it's such a bummer.
- that I can't decide if I want to cut my hair pixie short, get a slight trim or let it grow long & bohemian. I used to have no trouble with such superficial decisions and would do funky things to my hair on a whim. What's up with that?
Things that make me say, "yay!" :
- sunny days
- we ordered a hot tub!! I think the warm, bubbly water will definitely help with the cool, gray Pacific NW days we experience so often in the non-summer months.
- that I've successfully cut all refined carbs & most sugar out of my diet for the past month and feel less bloated.
- that my husband makes our family his number one priority.
- having my Vox neighbors show up randomly in my dreams - too funny!
- that it's almost time for the local Farmer's Markets to open
- reading books to my kids while they cuddle up near me

Earlier this morning it was a gorgeous, warm and sunny day. Now in the afternoon as I type this post, it is cloudy, breezy and darn right cold outside.
I am happy that I took a few moments earlier today to just laze around in the sunshine and feel the warmth of the sun.
I couldn't decide which photo to post, so here's two!
Yay! The sun came out, the sun came out! The dark clouds have lifted. It is warm outside, warm enough to wear summer clothes. Even though I was just sitting outside on our back deck and a bird pooped on my arm, I don't even care - it is a SUNNY day!!!
Being in a state of self absorption and melancholy presently, I can't seem to get enough of this song by Sia.
Not only am I entranced by the mere dramatic sound of it, but by her powerful lyrics.
The video (which I just watched for the first time) is also pretty spectacular...definitely worth a look-see.
My favorite local cookbook author, Cynthia Lair, now has free online cooking classes!!!
She has created a series of quirky and fun 5-7 minute online cooking lessons called Cookus Interruptus designed to demystify cooking with whole foods. She gets her "family" involved in the lessons and the banter is both informative and entertaining. It could just be me, but sometimes I feel a little Curb Your Enthusiasm improv vibe going on and of course, I love that!

And, I might add that living here in the Seattle area, I get plenty of opportunities to listen to my ultimate rainy day song. :-)

Mark introduded me to this one. Yes, this is absolutely the one you should know about.
Things that make me say "yuck!" --
- those paper subscription inserts in magazines that constantly fall out, littering the floor as I read.
- when I'm waiting in my car for someone to leave their street parking and they pause to put on their make-up, talk on their cell phone, pick their nose, eat an ice cream cone, etc. They appear to see me and the cars that have to drive around me, yet they move in sloooooow motion. Are they trying to be annoying? I don't get it. When I see someone is vying for my parking spot, I get in the car, put the key in the ignition and I'm off. Common courtesy.
Things that make me say "yay!" --
- that my fresh flowers look even better now than they did when I brought them home 5 days ago.
- that the weather has been warm enough to spend time by our nearby river
- having my first ever girlfriend spa weekend getaway planned and on the calendar!
- I painted my front door this weekend and it turned out really great! I was nervous that my brush strokes would show, but they didn't. Yay!
- That I have enough self-restraint not to eat my kids up when they are so damn cute...especially the small one with his chubby lil' feets!
- that my husband made it safely to his business teavel destination. I have to admit, I always hold my breath a bit until I get a call from him hearing he landed safely.
- my son's first grade "garbage monster" project which he completed all on his own. Pretty resourceful and creative:
